Blogtipping is a tradition or meme started by me (Easton Ellsworth) back in April 2006 as a fun way to surprise other bloggers with public appreciation and advice.

Starting May 1, 2006, I held a monthly Blogtipping Day on the first day of each month and invited fellow bloggers to “go blogtipping” on their own blogs.

Since then, hundreds of blogtipping posts have dotted the blogosphere.

Blogtipping is a bit wacky, which adds to the fun of it.

It’s pretty easy to do. You simply surprise a blogger with some unsolicited praise and advice.

My personal tradition for a long time was to blogtip three people in the same post, giving each one three points of praise and one quick blogging tip.

It can put a smile on someone’s face for the whole day.

You can call it “blog tipping” too. Either way’s fine.
