The Power of Selflessness
October 6th, 2008 by
Time is worth money. But people are worth far more than time or money, and only by focusing on the first thing can you hope to redeem the most of the other two.
So, if you blog for professional reasons, I invite you to practice giving selflessly in your blogging.
It’s counterintuitive. It’s paradoxical. But it’s also paramount.
Why am I telling you this?
Because I want you to remember this truth: As you sow, so shall you reap.
Yes, others may take of the same seed and do differently - and they will reap according to what they sow, just as you will.
As you sow selfishness, so shall you reap emptiness.
As you sow selflessness - thoughtful blog posts, appreciative comments, helpful suggestions, innovative ideas, personal invitations, high business standards and generous acts - so shall you reap friendships, lessons, experiences and habits that will benefit you and others far more than you can yet imagine.

No where has this approach been more evident to me than in Skelliewag’s website. She gave and gave and gave to her readers and offered her professional services for free. As a result, she earned 3,000 subscribers and a pagerank of 6 in a very short time frame. But she worked for it, and she provided real value to anyone who asked for it. It was so neat to watch it happen.
Skellie’s a perfect example. You’re absolutely right, Patrick!
